Bath House Prep Work Continues

The stone will be placed along the bottom portion of the building.

Renovations continue on the bath house, with the prep work almost completed for the stone installation around the base of the building.

The building gets a new look with Hardiplank siding, seen here at the top.

The Hardiplank has been installed at the top of the building and all of the windows are now in place.

Also, the men's and women's sides are taking shape as room dividers go up.

February Brings Progress to Bath House

The groundhog may or may not see his shadow tomorrow, but at Fairfax Swimming Pool, things are moving along toward a fantastic 2012 season. The unseasonably warm temperatures have assisted in the bath house work.

The crew readies the entrance area for new posts and concrete.

Some updates on the bath house renovations:

The bath house has a new concrete floor.
The new doors will be installed in a few days.
The new windows will be installed soon.
The stones have been delivered for the stonework. The outside of the building (up to around 3 feet) and the walkway wall between the grass and the entrance ramp will have stone.

As you can see from the photos, the work has been progessing nicely and we're on track to have the bath house completed and ready before Memorial Day weekend.

New Year, New Floor!

Work continues in the new year on the bath house. The warmer temperatures over the first part of January has made the renovations work easier. Earlier this week, jackhammers broke up the old walkway entrance--what fun to see the ground and new post holes to replace those deteriorating ones.

Next up: new concrete on the bathroom floors for both the men’s and women’s sides.

One note: If you do stop by to see the work-in-progress, please do not enter the fenced area without permission from the supervisor. We want to keep everyone safe, especially children.

Demo Nears Completion!

The demolition of the bath house is nearing completion. Check out the photographs that uncovered the original walls—even the original signage. Right behind the tree, you can glimpse a dolphin, which is fairly visible as you drive by the pool (unfortunately, the workers were gone for the day when these photographs were taken, so access was restricted to the site). Apparently, we were the Dolphins or Flippers before we became the Fairfax Frogs.

Next up: redoing the plumbing—and everyone cheered at the thought of a better smelling, and less pungent, bath house next summer!

Bath House Floor is No More

While we were stuffing ourselves with turkey over the Thanksgiving weekend, demolition began in earnest at the pool's bath house with the digging up of the concrete floors in the men's and women's locker rooms. Here are some photos of the construction so far. Stay tuned for more photos of the work as the renovations continue.

Bath House Renovations Commence!

The renovations on the pool's bath house have begun. While the photo doesn't show too much activity, there has been progress made inside the bath house. The first stage will be demolition of the guts of the building.

Renovations are scheduled to be completed in plenty of time before the Memorial Day opening of the 2012 swim season. We will be updating this blog as the renovations continue this fall/winter/spring, so check back to see what's new at the bath house!

Doggie Splashdown a Success!

Thanks to all of our friends, members and neighbors who came out despite the drizzle for the fourth annual Doggie Splashdown! We had more than 50 dogs swimming around and having a ball.

We hope you enjoyed the 2011 season at Fairfax Swimming Pool. Check back on this blog throughout the off season to see the renovation progress to our bathhouse and pool area.

Doggie Splashdown

On Monday, September 5, the pool will go to the dogs as we hold our annual Doggie Splashdown at 7 p.m. after the pool officially closes for the season.

A very popular event, we are asking that each owner bring a $5 donation per pooch for the Fairfax County Humane Society.

So bring your cameras and your dogs and help us close out the 2011 season with a splash!

Last Chance to Splash Cookout

Join us in closing out the 2011 pool season by coming to our annual Last Chance to Splash Cookout, held Sunday, Sept. 5, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The pool will fire up the grills for cooking, so bring your own meat and a dish or two to share with others.

At dusk, we will show one of the "Night at the Museum" movies. No swimming during the movie. Theatre-style popcorn, sodas and cookies will be available in unlimited quanities (until supplies run out) for $5 per person/$25 per family maximum.

Pool Opens at 3, Sunday, August 28

Pool Closed August 27

Fairfax Swimming Pool will be closed today, Aug. 27, because of the weather. With Hurricane Irene blowing into our area, the guards have secured the pool property in preparation for tonight's higher winds and rain.

We anticipate opening the pool tomorrow (Sunday, Aug. 28), but the start time might be delayed depending on how much clean-up is needed. We will send out another email with an approximate opening time or check the pool's blog on the home page for an update.

End of Summer Ice Cream Social, Sunday, Aug. 28

New date--August 26 because of rain forecast.

Teenagers rule the pool during the 13 & Older Movie Night on Friday, August 26, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. "Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark" will be shown, but no swimming during the flick. Popcorn and drinks will be for sale.

Inflatable Thursdays

All Star Dive Championships August 7

The pool will be closed on Sunday, August 7, all day for the All-Star Dive Championships. In addition to the usual use of Mosby Woods and Country Club Hills pools when Fairfax is closed, the board of Sleepy Hollow Bath and Racquet Club has offered the use of their facilities for Fairfax members on that day. The Fairfax Swimming Pool will be closed Monday, June 20, in order to do a permanent fix on the electrical panel. There is a chance the work will be done more quickly than anticipated, so stay tuned to this blog and your email for any news on the pool's opening.

Meanwhile, you may swim at Country Club Hills, which is open 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Mondays.

The pool will be closed until further notice because the electrical panel in the pump room needs to be fixed. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to have the pool opened again as soon as possible.

The Fairfax Swimming Pool has been closed for the rest of today, June 14, because of a malfunctioning pump. The pump is being fixed and we hope to open on time tomorrow.

Annual Operating Fee Due May 15

Annual Meeting April 13

The Fairfax Swimming Pool will hold its annual membership meeting Wednesday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber Room at City Hall. All stockholding members are invited to attend this meeting, where the Board will present a proposed plan to renovate the bathhouse and to finance construction. Only stockholding members who attend the annual meeting will be able to vote on these plans (one vote per stockholding membership).

For details about this plan, please read the annual meeting letter, emailed to stockholding members on March 29. Plan to attend this meeting to learn more about the 2011 season and future renovation plans.
